The high-end laptops just received a very important update. This is the Microsoft Surface Book 2 that our Xataka colleagues collected. The company founded by Bill Gates renews its commitment to place a team of its own to match (even surpassing, according to the company) Apple's MacBook Pro. Let's take a look at its specifications and price, comparing them with Cupertino laptop

Battery, dimensions and price that draw attention

For those who do not closely follow the path of Microsoft with its Surface range, the main novelty of the equipment shown yesterday was the appearance of a 15-inch model. An interesting addition for those looking for a more demanding computer in the Windows environment.

Leaving aside the obvious differences of operating system or convertible format, there are four elements that call my attention:

Battery. Microsoft says that their computers will last for 17 hours watching uninterrupted video. That's 70% more than the 10 hours of Apple's MacBook Pro, which is very important on a portable computer. Although we should look at how they behave in reality.

The dimensions and weight, where the MacBook Pro win almost everything except the width of the 15-inch model. It is due to the wedge design and the hinge chosen by Microsoft. This is also an element to consider in equipment that requires portability.

Microsoft has not decided to make the full jump to USB-C, keeping two traditional USB and just one USB-C input. This may be due to the chaos that this standard suffers, although that is another debate.

The price is lower in Apple models. In the case of the 13-inch model, part of the difference can be explained because the input equipment has only 128GB. RAM is superior on Macs and all computers have a seventh generation Intel Core (eighth in the case of the Surface Book 2 of 15 inches).

In general, they are more or less on par and the price difference is small when you move in these ranges. But Surface Book 2 puts the price of high-end portable equipment in perspective. They are interesting equipment for those who are hesitating between one platform or another, as long as the operating system and the ecosystem are not a key element in decision-making. The only impediment is that it is not yet known when it will reach Spain and Latin America.
